Employed Personal Assistant

stant

A PA who is employed by the person for whom they provide services will have the security of a contract of employment, sick pay, holiday pay and pension. The hours that the PA works will be set by the employer as will the rate of pay. The job security for a PA who is employed is much higher than for a self-employed PA.

There is no minimum number of hours that is required to be worked per week or per month for a contract of employment to be put in place.

In the past the majority of PA’s working in the Support with Confidence scheme chose to be self-employed but more recently PAs have been advised to consider being employed through their own companies so that they remain being ‘their own boss’ but ensure that they protect their clients from inadvertently being considered employers by HMRC.
